The Procession of the Ghouls

One of my favorite Halloween traditions is happening tonight: The Procession of the Ghouls at St. John the Divine. If you've never seen it, the whole inside of the cathedral is decorated for Halloween, which in itself is pretty cool, but there's more. First they show an old silent horror film--this year it's 1925's The Phantom of the Opera, which believe it or not I've never seen, except for the famous unmasking scene--accompanied by live music on the cathedral's Great Organ. It's amazing. Seriously, you can feel those low notes reverberating in your chest.

After the movie is the main event, the Procession of the Ghouls, which is a parade straight down the cathedral's center aisle of all manner of ghosts, ghouls, goblins, and devils. The costumes are designed by Ralph Lee, and they're awesome.

It's been an annual tradition of ours for the past three years, and as far as I'm concerned, it's not to be missed!
