The book had been recommended to me by friends and supposedly had a great track record of success stories, so I ordered it as soon as I started thinking seriously about quitting. And then it took forever to show up. Finally, I got tired of just talking about quitting and decided it was time to do it whether the book was here or not. So by the time The Easy Way to Stop Smoking showed up in the mail, I'd already stopped. I guess that puts me ahead of the game.
I'm reading the book anyway for the positive reinforcement it can provide, and for its psychological exploration of why people smoke in the first place. Carr himself is an ex-smoker and knows talking about the health implications of smoking doesn't mean squat to anyone who smokes, so he wisely takes a psychological and emotional approach instead. You're not giving something up by stopping smoking, Carr insists. Instead, you're gaining something. Freedom.
I like that, and it works much better for me than pictures of blackened lungs ever did.
