Yaaaaaaaaaaay! Two of HBO's best current series returned tonight to kick off their new seasons, and both were awesome. Big Love was the usual mix of the hilarious (that final scene was perfect) and the dramatic (the scene with Alby in the public restroom was extraordinary). I have to admit, I was surprised to see Ana again, and I actually gasped like an uptight school matron when Bill...well, no spoilers here, but it's a testament to the writing and acting that I could actually feel Bill's shame. Margene is so cute I don't even know how to handle it. Also, special guest star Chakotay! (Apparently he's Hollywood's go-to Indian.)
The Flight of the Conchords was marvelous too. I missed those guys. Murray is quickly becoming my favorite character -- I couldn't believe that new office, I thought it was going to be a dream sequence! -- though it'll be hard for him to surpass Mel, who, sadly, was barely in this episode. Come on, you guys, more Mel! Also, the visual gag involving Jermaine's jacket was priceless.
Sometimes I can't believe how excited I get over TV shows! Well, some of them, anyway. I'm still angry at you, Law & Order: SVU, for the shame you bring me. And you, ER, you've been dead to me for years!
