io9 is reporting that The CW has plans for a massive revamp of the classic British TV show The Tomorrow People. Greg Berlanti (Arrow) and Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries), who met while working on Dawson’s Creek, are teaming up to remake and update the 1970s drama about teens with mental powers.
I don’t know how I feel about this. I loved The Tomorrow People as a kid but recently discovered, when I watched the series again in 2005, that it didn’t live up to my memories. There was already a British remake in the ’90s, which I never saw and never really wanted to see, being such a big fan of the original. But this? A U.S. version to air on The CW from the people behind Arrow, The Vampire Diaries, and Dawson’s Creek? Yeesh. I don’t know, it sounds like there’ll be lots of love triangles and brooding guys instead of kids who are the next step in human evolution using telekinesis to stop extraterrestrial robots. Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing, but for some reason, despite the lessons of rewatching the original, I still feel protective toward it.
Hmmm. Better go to the abandoned tube station headquarters and ask supercomputer Tim what he has to say about all this.
