Your Publishing Story for Today

In 1958, British science fiction author Brian W. Aldiss published a novel called Non-Stop. It told the story of a member of a non-technological society exploring the strange world he and his tribe inhabit. The twist at the end is that it's revealed to be a starship. Not such a big shock for readers these days, but at the time it was probably pretty surprising.

When the book was published in the U.S. the following year, the publisher decided to really increase the mystery by renaming the novel...Starship.

And that's your publishing story for today.

This Writer's Life

It's funny, even after all this time--four books, three awards nominations, and a slew of critical acclaim--rejections still sting and throw me into a whirlwind of self-doubt. You'd think I'd have a thicker skin by now!
