|Necon 31, and Some News About Necon 32

International Bon Vivant and Raconteur
It occurs to me that I couldn't post anything about Necon 31 to LiveJournal when I got back because of the DDoS attack that prevented me from logging in for nearly a week. Suffice it to say, Alexa and I had a blast, as usual. Duckpin bowling Friday morning (replacing mini-golf because it was 102 degrees outside) was a lesson in non-Newtonian physics. I don't know how you New Englanders deal with it. My traditional early Saturday morning panel was kind of a mess, but that's to be expected. Overall, we had lots of fun seeing old friends (including lokilokust, who actually made a rare public appearance!) and making new ones.
There are undoubtedly photos all over the web of the conference, but there's only one picture that, for me, encapsulates the weekend as a whole:
This was taken during the roast of Brian Keene and Mary SanGiovanni Saturday night. That's me at the podium, on your left, trying to get through one particular joke without cracking up, and failing miserably. That's also Christopher Golden at the podium, on your right, bravely offering to finish my joke for me. He couldn't. It took him two tries before he stopped laughing enough to get the words out. Not to put too fine a point on it, but it was the best roast I've ever seen at Necon, and not just because I made Chris Golden crack up. Everyone was great. Brian and Mary were a crispy golden brown when we were through with them, but they were good sports.
The weekend was over too soon, as it always is. But now I can bring you news of Necon 32, in July of 2012. The Guests of Honor will be Heather Graham and Jeff Strand. And the Toastmaster?
That would be yours truly.
Register ASAP. You won't want to miss this!
