Creepy News Story of the Day [Mar. 9th, 2010|09:21 am]
International Bon Vivant and Raconteur
I don't often link to news stories on this blog, but this one caught my attention this morning and left me with chills.

According to CNN, back in 1978 a serial killer was a contestant on The Dating Game--and won.

If Alcala appeared likable to viewers at home, Mills said he was the complete opposite when they sat together in the show's green room, where the show's contestants waited before going on air.

"He was quiet, but at the same time he would interrupt and impose when he felt like it," Mills said. "And he was very obnoxious and creepy -- he became very unlikable and rude and imposing as though he was trying to intimidate. I wound up not only not liking this guy ... not wanting to be near him ... he got creepier and more negative. He was a standout creepy guy in my life."

Within months of his "Dating Game" appearance, Alcala would become a killer.

An extremely creepy, true-life story for this fine Tuesday morning.

The Trivia King Hates Pabst Blue Ribbon [Mar. 9th, 2010|10:13 am]

Team Totally Tits came in third last night at bar trivia. We actually tied for second, but when there's a tie it comes down to a PBR chug-off, and my team foolishly chose me for the competition. I can't chug, and PBR is an awful beer, especially after a night spent drinking pints of Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA, so we came in third. Ah well, at least I got a free (terrible) beer out of it, and the team was awarded a $10 bar tab.

We did well on a lot of the rounds this time (Oscar trivia was a snap) and did remarkably well on the audio round, considering this time it was Name That Drummer. Snippets of twenty songs were played and each team had to name the song's title, the band that performed it, and the name of the drummer on that song. Some were easy, like "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins with Phil Collins on drums, and some were more challenging--who remembers Jimmy Chamberlin was the drummer for Smashing Pumpkins anymore?--but teammates Dave and Mike were really on the ball.

We return Monday, April 12 to see if Team Totally Tits can win for the eighth time.
