"Go into the light. All are welcome. All are welcome."

Zelda Rubinstein, the US actress best known for her role as the diminutive psychic in 1982 film Poltergeist, has died in Los Angeles at the age of 76.

Poltergeist is an iconic film in its own right, but Zelda's role as the medium Tangina Barrons was iconic too, embodying perhaps the most lasting symbol (and voice) in the film. Her performance was one of the factors that helped usher Poltergeist into film history. Rest in peace, Ms. Rubinstein. "This house is clean."

P.S. As I was writing this, author J.D. Salinger died too. I read The Catcher in the Rye in high school, just like everyone else I know, and found it somewhat incomprehensible at the time, mostly because I wasn't old enough or emotionally developed enough at the time to understand it fully. Always meant to revisit that novel.
