Merry Christmas, Everyone!

Here's wishing you and yours a very merry Christmas. Just try to avoid all the creepy old men in fur-trimmed red suits. If one asks you to sit on his lap and tell him what you want, run and tell the authorities immediately!

Eartha Kitt, R.I.P.

On the heels of the report of Harold Pinter's death comes more sad news this Christmas day. Eartha Kitt has passed away at the age of 81. She may have been best known as a Tony- and Grammy-nominated singer, but to me she will always be one of the three actresses who played Catwoman on the 1960s Adam West Batman series (the other two being Julie Newmar and Lee Meriwether, though I think Meriwether may have only been in the movie).

As I recall, they removed the romantic tension between Batman and Catwoman whenever Eartha Kitt stepped into the character's glittery boots, perhaps a sign of the times' interracial squeamishness, but despite that, and in every way, Kitt was purrrrrrrfect in the role.

You knew I was going to say it.
