International Bon Vivant and Raconteur
In Comedy Central's desperate, years-long scramble to develop a comedian-centered sketch comedy show to take the place of Chappelle's Show, David Alan Grier's Chocolate News is certainly a step up from Mind of Mencia, even if it's not quite at the level of Dave Chappelle's comic genius. Last night's premiere was a mixed bag. Some of the skits were very good, like the opening "Hip-hop, have you lost your damn mind?" monologue and the No Child Left Behind PSA sketch, while others fell flat, like the "N-Word Peace Treaty" bit.
Still, it's not a bad diversion if you're in the mood for some sketch comedy, and David Alan Grier isn't as annoying as I remember him from In Living Color and various movies.
The TV Nerd says: Worth a look, but don't necessarily go out of your way.
