HBO has renewed Tell Me You Love Me for a second season, which I kind of didn't expect. I mean, it's a good show, the writing and acting are amazing, but it's missing something. It's missing buzzability.
Frankly, I haven't heard a single "Oh my God, what do you think will happen with Palek and Carolyn?!" around the veritable water cooler the way every episode of The Sopranos, Sex and the City and The Wire was deconstructed and analyzed. In fact, any buzz about Tell Me seems to have a lot more to do with its graphic sex scenes than anything with its characters or plotlines -- "Did I just see that guy's balls?" instead of "Will Katie and David reconnect?" Sex is a powerful draw, but can it keep this show going indefinitely?
I'm glad it got renewed because it's such a quality drama, but for the life of me, I did not expect it.
