TV Guide's Michael Ausiello has posted a rumor that the producers of ABC's Lost are considering Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell for the new role of Charlotte, a hot 20-something who is said to be "precocious, loquacious and funny." According to Ausiello, the role is described as "a very successful academic who also knows how to handle herself in the real world."
Wow, it's gonna be like Nikki and Paulo all over again, isn't it? Am I crazy, or does it seem like everything the producers do to "spice up" Lost backfires (Michelle Rodriguez) and/or fails spectacularly (the aforementioned Nikki and Paulo).
There's a reason why it doesn't work. The viewers don't want more distractions, they want more of the cool, mysterious stuff that's been set up since episode one. You know, the stuff that got people talking around the watercoolers and lunch counters. Nobody's watching because they want to see Jack fall in love with someone, they're watching because they want to know what the fuck is going on on this freaky island. Period. Every time they add a new Nikki or Paulo, every time they devise a subplot that does not directly relate to the situation at hand, they are stringing the audience along in order to pad out the season. It's no wonder the Nielsen numbers have dropped off so dramatically.
I love Kristen Bell. I want to marry her and live happily ever after with her and her dad from Veronica Mars. I also want to see her do well, and my fingers are crossed that her rumored addition to the cast of Lost will go better than every previous cast addition did.
Kristen, call me. We need to talk. How about over drinks? (Please don't tell me you're a married Scientologist like the guy who plays Logan!)
