When I was fifteen, there was little that warmed the cockles of my black little heart more than the TV horror anthology series Tales from the Darkside. It ran throughout my late teens, which made me the perfect audience member. I was raised on the 80s revival of The Twilight Zone and Amazing Stories, not to mention the weekday midnight showings of the original Twilight Zone in syndication, but Tales from the Darkside was something different. It focused solely on horror stories, and I'd dare say it helped shape my interest in the genre to the point of becoming a practitioner.
However, I've oftened wondered if I would enjoy the show as much now as I did as a teenager. I bet I would find it hokey and cheesy, since my tastes have developed since I was fifteen and I now understand the difference between quality and quantity.
But I don't have to wonder anymore! The SciFi Channel will be showing a mini-marathon on Thursday, February 15th from 8 AM- 3:30 PM. I'll be away from my TV at work, but you can bet I'll be taping some of them to watch later!
"The Darkside is always there, waiting for us to enter, waiting to enter us. Until next time, try to enjoy the daylight."
