This weekend I went to Boston to see my college friend Emily, whom I haven't seen in about five years, and I had a blast. I also got to see nihilistic_kid, buymeaclue, pgtremblay and mssrcrankypants. We all got together for dinner Sunday night (jenlight was also supposed to join us, but had to cancel). I wish we could do that kind of thing more often.

nihilistic_kid came with Emily and me to the new Pandemonium bookstore, which was chock-a-block with nerdy goodness. Emily bought a copy of On Writing Horror and sarahlangan's The Keeper. We also went to Rodney's Bookstore, which was less nerdy except for their leatherbound, slipcased editions of The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons.

pgtremblay joined us for brunch on Tuesday. We made him wait for us in the cold at a Chinese restaurant that turned out to be closed, because we're evil like that, but then we found a place that served more appropriate egg products.

One of the highlights of the trip was seeing the Mapparium at the Mary Baker Eddy Library. You get to walk inside a big glass globe of the Earth, and even though the countries all still have their names from 1935 when it was built (Trans-Jordan! Persia! Palestine! Union of Soviet Socialist Republics!), it's still mightily impressive.

But the best thing was being back in touch with Emily and seeing her again. She's a good friend, and I missed her a lot.

Also, the Acela train = awesome. Well worth the extra $20-30.
