Happy 4th of July, my fellow American LJers!|
I'm so happy I got today off from work. I didn't know I would until Saturday, and even then only because I asked if we could. This should break up my Two Weeks of Scheduling Hell nicely and, with luck, should not only make me less crabby but also give me a bit more writing time than I'd anticipated this week. Actually, crabbiness and loss of writing time seem to go hand in hand, now that I think about it.
Tonight is the event I've taken to calling Lesbian Barbecue 2006 at my friends Mary and Sabrina's. I think there's something quite apt about celebrating freedom with a yardful of lesbians in this age of anti-gay marriage legislation and politically powerful televangelists who think 9/11 happened because we don't jail same-sex people for falling in love with each other. Plus, Mary and Sabrina are excellent folks, and I wouldn't miss it for the world - not even to go berry picking with the equally excellent rosefox and ktempest (hopefully another time). I'm bringing venison sausage made from the deer a friend of a friend killed on a hunt in Texas, and I'm doing my best not to think of the political ramifications of a man showing up at Lesbian Barbecue 2006 with a gigantic sausage he hopes they will all eat.
