I'm excited to see my story "Under the Skin" advancing up the list of Stoker-recommended short stories this year. Right now I'm tied for third place with Clive Barker's "Haeckel's Tale", a standing that will definitely land me a spot on the Preliminary Ballot. (The Stokers are a three-step process. The Prelim is the middle step between the free-for-all recommending of stories and the Final Ballot of actual nominees. The Prelim includes the top ten recommended stories of the year.)|
I've been on the Prelim three times before, for the stories "The Dead Stay Dead", "The Jew of Prague" and "Go", but like a big ol' loser I've yet to advance from there to the Final Ballot. I'm really hoping this will be the year I become an actual Bram Stoker Award nominee. Even if the odds of winning against the likes of Barker, Chuck Palahniuk and Gary Braunbeck are slim at best, the honor of a nomination alone would make me a happy camper.
So if anybody found a genie in a bottle and is having a hard time coming up with a third wish...
