THE STATE OF THE GENRE: The Last Place You Look
The first installment of my monthly column at Fear Zone, "The State of the Genre," is now up on the site. Titled "The Last Place You Look," the subject matter will not surprise any of my longtime blog readers AT ALL!

Unfortunately, that news just broke a few days ago, after this column was written. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

They passed on Preacher?

The fools!

Nice article though, Nick. I'll be coming back for more.

I think they're fools too for passing. I wonder if/where it'll end up.

Just the fact that HBO was developing Preacher supports your point regardless of how it turned out.

Thanks, but I do wish they hadn't passed on it.

Good article. I guess I'm the only guy who doesn't like Preacher. I thought it started out well enough but devolved into a repetitive series of adolescent jokes by the end.

I kind of agree. As with Y: THE LAST MAN and TRANSMETROPOLITAN, two other excellent comics series, they kind of stretched on longer than they should have and as a result felt like a lot of filler before the end.

Kaufmannia? That made me snort. :P

Great overview of Horror on TV!! I agree that Carnivale was amazing and sadly, too slow moving. Bah! Very nice article, keep posting links here when you put up a new article, okay? :) (Because no, I don't visit Fearzone every day. LOL!)

Oh my god, the babies are leaving comments on LJ!

I'll be sure to link to my columns, don't worry.

Nick,

Nice work. Looking forward to the next installment. Sucks about Preacher. I know this is rank heresy in the genre world, but I enjoyed it more than The Sandman by whatshisname? You know, the guy who is always wearing sunglass inside? Neil Cassidy Gaiman, or something?

SANDMAN and PREACHER are really apples and oranges. I liked them both.

Congrats on the new column.

I'll definitely keep up with it.

But I was surprised-- no mention of Chiller Theater from our childhood.

That creepy animated hand will get no love from me!

Actually, there would have been far too many afternoon movie shows like that to mention in the column. And I didn't even get into all the costumed TV horror hosts who used to rule the UHF and cable stations!
